Tawanda Leigh Cheley

Ms. Tawanda Leigh Cheley was born on March 13,1979, in Metter, Georgia, to the late Larry Lee Cheley and Mae Frances Carlton. On July 29, 2024, she passed away at the age of 45.

 Tawanda attended the public schools of Candler County, GA and completed her GED in 1997. She attended Swainsboro Technical College and became a Certified Nursing Assistant. She worked at Pleasant Viewing Nursing Home for many years.

Tawanda enjoyed cooking and spending time with her family. She became interested in the things of God and began attended church at True Vine Deliverance and Fountain Spring Missionary Baptist Church.

Her passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew her, but her spirit lives on through the countless memories of laughter, love, and care she shared. Tawanda’s generosity, kindness, and unwavering love will be remembered always.

She leaves to cherish fond memories, her daughters, Lawanda Cheley and Taleidra Mercer of Metter, GA; her son, Joseph Jordan of Metter, GA; her three brothers, Larry Lee Cheley of Columbus, GA, Christopher Lee (Betrese) Cheley of Stillmore, GA, and Danny Lee (Shana Rock) Cheley of Metter, GA; and her sister, Bessie Leigh Cheley of Swainsboro, GA; her devoted companion, Brian Newkirt of Metter, GA, and special friend, Denise Parker; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and sorrowing friends.
