Samuel Pough was born in Tattnall County, Georgia on July 27, 1949 to Reverend Joe Nell Pough, Sr. and Henrietta Collins Pough. His formal education was through Tattnall County Schools, Collins Elementary School and Tattnall County Industrial High School.
A virtual lifelong believer, he started early, accepting Christ and being baptized at the New Bethaven Primitive Baptist Church in Collins, Georgia. Samuel, or Sam, as he was often referred, relocated to New York. He lived, worked and worshipped there for some fifty years. He transitioned from this life on Thursday, April 8, 2021.
Sam was a member of the Zion Gospel Church in Copiague, NY and served faithfully for years under Bishop Willard Price. He served as a Deacon, Usher, Sunday School Teacher and in whatever capacity he was needed. He was a living example of the scripture that says, whatever your hand finds to do, do it with all your might. His years of service driving school buses and bus yard maintenance for the Board of Education.
Sam was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Daislee and Alberta Pough; brothers Joe Nell Pough, Jr. and identical twin, Nathaniel Pough; daughter, Samantha Renee Pough and twin sons, Samuel and Emmanuel; his brother John Franklin Pough followed him to his eternal reward on April 9, 2021.
So many left to mourn him and celebrate all that he was: his wife of over thirty years, Barbara; daughters, Crystal and Sharlena, stepson, Thomas (Jada); sons Corey and Samuel, Jr.; sisters, Pearl Battle, Leona Bolden, Gloria Johnson (Christopher), Viola Dawatola (Kayode), Carrie Mae Rodgers, Cassandra Butler (Marvin), and Fadell Butler (Jerome); brothers, John E.
