Mr. Robert Charles Thomas was born August 25, 1948 to Mr. Johnny Thomas, Sr., and Mrs. Magnolia Baker Thomas in Dublin, Georgia.
Early in life, he moved with his family to Metter, Georgia. He attended the public schools of Candler County. After high school, he was drafted into the United States Army. He served in the Vietnam War and was awarded the Purple Heart Medal by Secretary of the United States Army, General William C. Westmoreland, for wounds sustained on June 10, 1969 in the Republic of Vietnam. For many years, Charles worked in the transportation business as a long distance truck driver.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Latwanda Thomas Smith; his parents; two brothers, Nathaniel Thomas and Johnny Thomas, Jr.; and one sister, Irene Waters.
He leaves to cherish fond memories; one granddaughter, Jynacis Smith of Jacksonville, Florida; two sisters, Rose Atkinson (Hosell) of Jacksonville, Florida and Ola Durden (Gwaine) of Glennville, Georgia; one brother, William Thomas of Savannah, Georgia; one son-in-law, Tyrone Smith, Jacksonville, Florida; one aunt, Della Baker of Wadley, Georgia; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
