Reverend Jay Michael Phillips was born June 6, 1972 to Johnny Michael Barton and Mary Jean Phillips in Patterson, New Jersey. He departed this life on Monday, January 11, 2021 at the University Medical Center, Augusta, Georgia.
He attended the public schools of Candler County, Georgia. Later in his life, he received his GED Diploma and Commercial Driver’s Certification, CDL’s, from Ogeechee Technical College, Statesboro, Georgia. In the early 2000’s he gave his life to Christ and became a dedicated member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in the Aline Community of Metter, Georgia. Reverend Phillips acknowledged and accepted his calling in ministry in 2011 and lived his life in a manner that would draw people to Christ. He became the Pastor of his member-ship church, Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, and served for eight “8” years faithfully. He had an eagerness to study and learn God’s word for the edification of the Body of Christ. Beginning January 2021, Reverend Phillips would have been a senior at Liberty University studying Theology. Reverend Phillips was employed with Core Civic, Wheeler County, Georgia, and served as a Faith Based Facilitator for over ten “10” years.
On August 11, 2001, he married the love of his life, Beverly Mincey and to the united they shared four beautiful children. Reverend Phillips shared a strong love for his family and that loved spread throughout the Candler County Community and surrounding areas. He loved to tell jokes and make people laugh.
He leaves to honor his memory; his loving wife, Beverly Phillips of Metter, Georgia; three sons, Rashad Mincey, Deontre’ (Samantha) Ross, and Jabin Phillips all of Metter, Georgia; one daughter, Kourtanne’ (Shavaughn) Littles of Statesboro, Georgia; his mother, Mary Jean Johnson of Metter, Georgia; two brother, LaJaunta Phillips and Trevor Phillips both of Metter, Georgia; his grandmother, Almeeter Phillips of Metter, Georgia; three sisters-in-law, Kim Mincey of Metter, Georgia, Terrell Mincey of Union, New Jersey, and Keisha (Lamont) Sauls of Plains Field, New Jersey; one special cousin/sister, Tiffany (Ricardo) Butler; one niece he helped to raise, LaKaeta (Antwan) Joiner; four grandchildren, Cre’vin, Brooklyn, Serenity, and Kaeson; two devoted friends, Cornelius Dekle and Roandle Day, several cousins, other relatives.
