Randy Byrd Obituary

Mr. Randy Byrd was born on May 20, 1964, in Orange County, Florida, to the late Mr. Curley Byrd and Mrs. Jerlean Spann Byrd. On May 18, 2025, just two days before his 61st birthday, Randy answered the call of his Savior and found eternal rest in the loving arms of Jesus. He now rejoins his beloved best friend and brother, Jeffery Byrd, in glory.

At an early age, Randy joined Saint Paul A.M.E. Church in Cobbtown, Georgia, where his spiritual foundation was laid. He was educated in the Tattnall County Public School System and graduated from Tattnall County High School in 1982.

Shortly after graduation, Randy proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving honorably from 1982 to 1988. After his military service, he continued his commitment to public service by joining the Georgia Department of Corrections. He worked at Rogers State Prison in Reidsville, Georgia, where he diligently rose through the ranks and retired as a Lieutenant after 18 years of dedicated service.

Randy was known for his unwavering love for his family, his deep sense of responsibility, and his quiet strength—even in the face of declining health. He especially cherished the time spent with his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy.

On March 19, 1998, Randy was united in holy matrimony to the former Ms. Jonnie Mae Carlyle. Their union was a testament to enduring love and mutual support.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife Jonnie Mae Byrd of Cobbtown Georgia; two sons, Brandon (Tenisha) Collins of Augusta GA and Randall Byrd of Warner Robins GA; one daughter, Rashida Byrd of Cobbtown GA; one sister, Schester Byrd of Cobbtown GA; one brother, Lavon(Mattie) Mercer of Atlanta GA; three granddaughters, Nevegh Byrd, Branyanng Collins and Anaiya Gordon; two grandsons, Cambran Collins and Willie Gordon Jr.; one maternal aunt, Magalene Spann of Reidsville, GA; one uncle, Jimmy (Lou) Collins of Warner Robins, along with a host of nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends .

The Staff of Whitaker Funeral Home is honored to support and serve the Byrd family with Dignity, Respect and Integrity.
