Rev. Harry Conyers was born on September 30, 1946 in Tattnall County, Georgia to the late James “Boss” and Norma Dean Conyers. On Saturday, April 20, 2024 he entered into eternal rest at home with family by his side.
Rev. Conyers grew up attending Charlton Grove Baptist Church. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age.
In 1964, he graduated from Lillian Street High School in Metter, Georgia. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1966. After being honorably discharged in 1969, he made his home in Paterson, New Jersey. He became a proud member of Grace Bible Class Church in Passaic, New Jersey.
Rev. Conyers forged a career with the National Railroad Passenger Cooperation ( Amtrak). In 2008 he retired from the company as an Assistant Division Engineer. After retirement he relocated to Hephzibah, Georgia. There he joined Spring Grove Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. Howard Harden. He served as son of the church at Spring Grove before being called to pastor his home church, Charlton Grove Baptist, Collins, Georgia on July 1, 2012. He remained the pastor of Charlton Grove until his passing. Rev. Conyers was faithful to his preaching and teaching of God’s unconditional love . He cherished his membership in the Mount Calvary Missionary Association under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Will White.
Pastor Conyers was also preceded in death by three sisters, Edna Quaresma, Dorothy Campbell and Bernease Frazier; three brothers, Sanford Conyers, Alex James Congers and Julius Conyers and his stepmother, Mrs. Edna Mae Conyers.
He leaves to cherish precious memories: his loving wife, Mrs. Shirley Conyers and five sons: Harry Conyers, Jr. (Sonovia), Dwayne Conyers, Sean Conyers (Tiana), Andre Hardy and Theodore James Holloway (Monica); nine grandchildren: Christian, Brandon, Abria, Brittne, Aysa, N’Day, Emarja, Zachariah, Marquise and three great grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Earl Mitchell, Dr. Fred Mitchell(Judy Lynn), Dr. Bennett Mitchell(Debbie), John Mitchell (Phobe) and sisters-in-law, Linda Brooks Congers and Sine Mae Conyers; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins; his church family and many loving friends.
