Maurice Middleton Obituary

The Beginning

Maurice Von Middleton affectionately known as “Mo” or “Snoop” was born on December 15, 1972, in Tallahassee, Florida to the union of Vannie Delores McCray and Samuel Middleton.

Spiritual Walk

Maurice accepted Christ at an early age while attending Second St. John Missionary Baptist Church. He was a member of the youth choir, Sunday school and Boy Scouts of America.

Educational and Work Experience

He was educated in the Savannah Chatham County Public System and graduated from Windsor Forest High School. During middle school, he played basketball for the local YMCA and Castle Heights Academy. He attended Savannah State College (now Savannah State University). Upon relocating to Statesboro, Georgia he was employed by the Statesboro Boys and Girls Club and various local businesses.

Preceded in Death

Maurice was preceded in death by his beloved father, Samuel Middleton, maternal grandparents, Bernice Love and Daniel McCray, Sr., paternal grandmother, Christina Middleton.

Cherished Memories

Maurice had a passion for cooking and eating. However, his main passion was fishing. On any given day when Maurice had free time, he could be found casting his rod in a creek or pond. He would always say, “It’s not about the fishing but the game.” He was a caring dad and had a special bond with all his cousins.

He leaves to carry on his legacy his mother, Vannie M. (Gibb) Walker; three daughters,  Nazirah of Charlotte, NC, Nyasha and NyMonie; two sons, Chandler Maurice and Maurice Von all of Statesboro, GA; four grandchildren, NyZir Garris, Makenliegh, MaLayiah and A’Nylah Holcomb; three special sons, Kaleb Shavers, Cameron Reid and Jontavius Timmons; two special god-brothers, Dwayne Ladson, Grady (Al) McCray, Jr.; one god-sister Keisha Harvey; his ride or die cousins, Janyelle Lovett and Victor Morris; special friend, Charlotte Shavers; six aunts, Velma McCray, Dorothy Morris, Amanda McCray, Eileen McCray-Parrish, Emma Jean (Henderson)Dunlap, JoAnn Middleton; eight uncles, Grady (Frances) McCray, Sr., Harold (Carrie) McCray, Daniel (Betty) McCray, Jr., Ronald McCray, James (Faye) McCray, Warner (Annie) McCray, Joseph Middleton and William Middleton and a host of relatives and  friends.

The Ending

After a brief illness, Maurice transitioned to be with the Lord in Memorial Medical Center on February 5, 2025.
