Mary P. Thomas, 91, passed on Thursday March 12, 2020 at Brown’s Healthcare and Rehabilitation. She was born in Calhoun County, Georgia to the late Rev. Allen and Ethel Idelet Clements on February 18, 1929.
She received her early post-secondary educated at Fort Valley State College. She then relocated to New York where she attended Apex School of Cosmetology. Upon graduation, she became a cosmetology professional and also a teacher at the school. After years of dedicated service, she returned to Georgia and attended Swainsboro Technical College where she received her degree as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Mary finished her professorial career as a nurse.
At an early age, Mary married Henry Pierson. After his death, she married Bernard Thomas in New York. They later relocated to Candler County, GA. After relocating to Candler County, she joined Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Pulaski Ga. where she served in the choir and as the choir president. Bernard also preceded Mary in death. Others who preceded her in death were two brothers, Henry Matthew Johnson, OZ Johnson and one sister Jewel Teal.
She leaves to cherish her memories one son, Kevin Lynn “Timmy” Rutherford, three grandsons- Timothy Demonte Rutherford (Melissa), Berry Rutherford, and Willie LaCue and a host of great grandchildren. Also mourning her death is one sister, Josephine C. Parrish, her nieces and nephews, John I Parrish Jr. (Remona), Michael Campbell (Debbie), Michelle Hayes, Donna Kennedy (Kennis) and Gina Henderson (Mark) and a host of great nieces and nephews, along with two very close and dear friend Alberta Banner & Ruth Ann Newton and many other friends and family.
