Mary Louise Henry, affectionately known as “Betty”, was born April 17, 1938, in Pulaski, Candler County, Georgia, to the late Willie L. and Minnie Lee Mincey Hobbs. She departed this life on Monday, November 11, 2024, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center, Statesboro, Georgia, at the age of 86.
She attended Byrd Jr. School in Candler County. As a child, she attended First Baptist Church, now Lakeside First Baptist Church, with her family. As a young woman, Betty moved to Newark, NJ, where she met and married the late Henry Grady Maddox. To this union one son was born, Henry Anthony Maddox. After the death of Henry, she married the James Henry who preceded her in death.
For many years she was employed by Jersey Plastics. She was a faithful worker there until she lost her hearing. Upon James’ retirement, the couple moved to Columbia, South Carolina, where she and James raised their grandson, Anthony Christian Maddox as their own. Upon the passing of James in 2021, she and Anthony moved to Metter, Georgia to be closer to family.
She leaves to cherish many fond memories: one son, Henry Anthony Maddox of Edison, NJ; one grandson, Anthony Christian Maddox and his mother Deana Marie Williams both of Irvington, NJ; four brothers, Mack A.
