Ms. Lucille Harden Steley-Moore (Bedot) was born on February 23, 1945, to the late Mr. Jake Harden & the late Mrs. Lizzie Littles Harden in Statesboro, GA. She was the third oldest of sixteen children.
Early in her life, she married and left Georgia for several years but later returned the summer of 1976. She often stated through the years, "I love Metter. Metter is my home." Ms. Lucille also loved God, her children, her grandchildren, her family, and friends, dearly. She helped many people by providing a listening ear, transportation, food, money, clothes, or a place to live. Many times, she gave away her last dollar because someone else had a need.
As a child, Ms. Lucille attended St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Register, Georgia with her family. As a young adult, she joined Treemount Temple Missionary Baptist Church in Metter, Georgia. Eventually, Ms. Lucille returned her church membership to St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church because "It is my home church. I went to St. Paul as a child. So, I went back home."
Ms. Lucille was extremely hardworking with an extensive work history that expanded from being a farmhand to employment in the hotel and restaurant industry. After an early retirement, she found more time to pursue and enjoy her hobbies which included reading her Bible, singing and dancing, fishing and listening to various genres of music.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie Moore; four sisters, Ruby Redding, Mildred Mincey, Leola Burton, and Lizzie Mae Leakes; four brothers, Frank Littles, James Harden, Jake Harden, Jr., and Pastor Ronnie Harden, Sr.
Ms. Lucille leaves to cherish her memory, three children, John Steley (Annie), Cathy Steley (Lee) and David Steley (Lisa); three grandchildren, Jayvis Hall, Jarod Steley and Leland Norman; eight bonus grandchildren; Chris Tarver, Leslie Byrd, Jakiya Hightower, Anasha Morelli, Kaprisa Byrd, Keyona Byrd, Quan Byrd and Shaunda Byrd; three great grandchildren, Jayvis Hall, Jr., Jace Hall & Jayla Hall; four sisters, Mae Jackson (Charles), Margie Byrd (Jesse), Voncin Freeman (Levi) and Blondie Harden; three brothers, Tony Harden (Modestine), Rony Harden (Cynthia) and Bruce Harden (Shandra); a special friend, Annie Mikell, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
The Staff of Whitaker Funeral Home is honored to serve the Steley-Moore and Harden families with Dignity, Respect and Integrity.
