Lloyd Coppock, Sr. Obituary

 

Mr. Lloyd Coppock, Sr. was born in Groveland, GA on Wednesday, April 28, 1937, to the late Mr. and Mrs. Huey Willie and Jennie Bryant Coppock. On Tuesday, September 21, 2021, he peacefully transitioned into rest.

Lloyd received his formal education in the Bryan County School system where he attended until joining the U.S. Army in his Sophomore year. Mr. Coppock was a Korean War Veteran who earned an honorable discharge, and he was also a 33° Prince Hall Mason. After serving his country, Lloyd returned home and continued his education at Savannah Vocational and Technical School from where he graduated as a barber.

Mr. Coppock answered the call to minister, and in Savannah, GA under the leadership of Pastor Gwendolyn Greene, he became an ordained pastor. For 25 years, Gospel Truth Teaching Ministry, one body with three locations, Pembroke, GA, Metter, GA and Spartanburg, SC, worshipped, fellowshipped, and served under the leadership of Pastor Lloyd Coppock, Sr. He utilized his barber status to become active in outreach street ministry and was the visionary with assistance from Brother Ashley, Ellabell, GA for Pembroke’s first food bank. Upon retiring, Pastor Coppock opened and operated Bishop Seafood and Restaurant in Claxton and Hagan, GA.

In 1958, at age 21, Lloyd united in marriage with Albertha Hammonds, and until his transition, they remained Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd and Albertha Coppock for 63 years. This union was blessed with six children; Pastor Coppock was predeceased by four of his children: three sons, Lloyd Coppock, Jr., Michael Key and Huey Willie Coppock and one daughter, Caroline Coppock Bulloch.

Those remaining to cherish a life of memories are his loving wife, Mrs. Albertha M. Coppock; two daughters and family friends, Verda Bell Johnson Davis Collins (Arthaniel Johnson), Savannah, GA and Retha Coppock Alvarez, Atlanta, GA (German Alvarez, Manhattan, NY); eight grandchildren, Shurneikqa Kinard, Afashnick Alvarez, John Coppock, Ortyvia Alvarez, Cornelius Johnson, Arthaniel Johnson, Jr., Talita Johnson, and LLoyetta Lyttle; twelve great-grandchildren, Shurkuan Williams, Samariah Ray, Mayanti Alvarez,  Dontarius Alvarez, Terre Haute, Azonta Alvarez, Shakira Alvarez, Zikirea Alvarez, Afashick Alvarez, Jr., Trekeyiah Jones, Jamir Stevens, and Nazyia Patterson; one brother, Earnest (Clotile) Coppock; three aunts, Lizzie M. Perry, Swainsboro, GA, Carolyn Moore and Rose Marie Moore both of Hendersonville, NC; four brothers-in-law, Sam (Brenda) Adams, Barnwell, SC, Jimmy (Miranda) Moore, Orange Park, FL, Freddie (Cynthia) Moore, Hendersonville, NC, and Eddie Moore, Hendersonville, NC;  host of great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
