Lizzie Mae Cheley, affectionately known as “Sue” to family, was born July 9, 1955 in Tattnall County, Georgia to the late Zobe and Carrie Cheley. At home with her sisters and brothers by her side, Sue departed this life into eternal life on August 16, 2015. Sue was very committed to her family and as the eldest daughter, became the matriarch of the family after her mother’s passing. In addition to raising her two children, she also raised a nephew, a great niece, and was raising three great nephews.
Sue confessed her faith in Christ at an early age and worshiped with her family and her community. She attended Tattnall and Candler County Public Schools before she decided to put her education on hold to help her mother tend to their large family. Sue entered the work force as a cook and also worked in the manufacturing industry. She decided to resume her education and attended Swainsboro Technical College in Swainsboro, Georgia, earning her Certified Nursing Assistant Certification and later earning a Child Development Associate certification from the state of Georgia.
Sue dreamed of managing her own home day care, which she did for a period of time. She was a soft-spoken, lovable, humble person. She would often put others’ concerns and needs before her own, and helping those who could not help themselves was one of her many passions. Upon earning her Certified Nursing Assistant Certification in 2001, she gained employment with Metter Nursing Home (Azalea Health and Rehabilitation), where she was employed until her passing. Sue was loyal and faithful in her work as a Certified Nursing Assistant, often assisting beyond her normal duties.
