Mr. Leon Williams was born August 29, 1935 in Lyons, Georgia to Hester Byrd Collins. His formative years were spent in Tattnall County, Georgia and he attended the public schools there. As a young man, Leon moved to Orlando, Florida, there he worked in the citrus fruit industry and in road construction .
While in his mid -forties, Leon relocated to Freehold, New Jersey. After twenty years in Freehold, he moved to Passaic, New Jersey where he remained until his passing on Monday, January 13, 2020. For forty years in New Jersey, he worked and eventually retired as a road construction worker . Leon was a very hard worker, but when time permitted, he enjoyed fishing and hunting.
Along with his mother, Leon was preceded in death by one son, Todd Williams; two sisters, Ernestine Eason and Opal Durden; three brothers, Curley Byrd, Garl Dean Collins and Coy Collins, Jr.
He leaves to cherish his memory, three sons, Jimmy Byrd, Sr. of South Bend, IN, Derrick Williams (Mary Gail ) of Orlando, FL and Frederick Williams (Katrina) of Ocoee, FL; one brother, Jimmie Collins (Louella) of Kathleen, GA; fourteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
