L. D. Mincey was born September 25, 1926, to the late Aldie and Gertrude Mincey in Pulaski, GA. On December 11, 2021, he answered the call of his heavenly father to return home from the Ogeechee Area Hospice, Statesboro, GA.
He was formally educated at Dixon Grove Elementary School and later earned his GED. L.D. and his family attended the community church. Upon reaching the required age in 1945, Mr. Mincey was drafted into the United States Navy during World War II and served as a Seaman. He received an Honorable Discharge upon completion of his enlistment.
On December 21, 1946, he married his childhood sweetheart, Ms. Wallean McCormick, who after 68 years of marriage, preceded him in death. To this union, a son, Ricky L. Mincey and a daughter, Darlean Mincey were born; both preceded him in death. Mr. Mincey was also predeceased by five brothers and three sisters.
L.D. resided in Savannah, GA, where he was employed with Hunt Wesson Oil for 3 years. After which, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and made his career. While enlisted in the Air Force, Mr. Mincey traveled to and served in many countries including Europe, Italy, and Japan. He also traveled to and served in several North American states to include New York, Texas, Wyoming, and Hawaii.
He leaves to cherish many memories one sister, Mamie C. Mincey, Savannah, GA; one brother, Willie T. (Pat) Mincey, Savannah, GA; two grandsons, Marcus (Sherika) Mincey, Atlanta, GA and Ricky Dashawn Mincey, Metter, GA; one granddaughter, Disheta Mincey Oglesby, Wichita, KS; six great-grandchildren, Elijah Oglesby, Emya Mincey, Ethan Oglesby, Morgan Robinson, Heaven Mincey, and Jinnah Mincey and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
