John "CJ" Givens

C. John Givens was born to Lunnie Mae Bradley Givens and Charlie Givens on April 1, 1951 in Evans County, Georgia. He passed into enteral rest on September 30, 2020 at Emanuel Medical in Swainsboro, Georgia.

 He received his education in the Bulloch County School system. John, known as CJ to all, relocated to Philadelphia, PA at the age of sixteen, where completed his high school education. After high school he joined the United States Navy. Upon returning from the Navy, he learned the trade of a tree surgeon; and was self employed until his health failed.

John “CJ” returned to south Georgia in 2013 for rehabilitation at Heritage Inn Health and Rehabilitation Center in Statesboro, GA. He was rehabilitated enough to the point that he was able to leave Heritage in and move into the Summit Apartments.

While in Statesboro, John “CJ” was able to pursue his talent as an artist. John “CJ” was fortunate enough to be able to have an exhibition of his artwork at the Averitt Center in Statesboro, GA.

John “CJ” is preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Charles Givens.

He leaves to cherish his memories: two daughters, Angela Carol Givens and Yaasmeen Guyton Givens of Philadelphia, PA; one grandson, Tyreece James Givens; two brothers, Carl (Jessie) Givens, Metter, GA and Cecil Givens (Regina) of Philadelphia, PA; three aunts, Carolyn Lovett of Statesboro, GA, LaBlanche Deloach of Register, GA and Jacquelyn Royal of Philadelphia, PA and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
