On Sunday, September 27, 2020, Joseph Albert Collins was called home at the age of 89. We lost an awesome father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; was a father-figure to all.
Joseph "Joe" was born on November 28, 1930 to the late Joseph Collins, Sr. and late Lillie Bell Collins in Augusta, Ga. While living in Augusta, he was joined in holy matrimony to the former Mary Williams. During this union two children were born.
He later relocated to Metter, Ga with his mother. While living in Metter he married Mattie Ruth Mincey. To this union one child was born.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mattie Ruth, his son Gary A. Collins, Sr. and his daughter Julia E. Collins.
Joe was a member of Sam's Creek Missionary Baptist Church, and he worked in the healthcare field for over 35 years. He was also a member and worker in the NAACP.
He is survived by two sons, Joseph Albert Collins (Debra) of Augusta, Ga and Christopher Swint ( Melinda) of Metter, GA; two daughters, Barbara Collins of Metter, Ga and Denise Booker of Baxley, Ga ; a daughter-in-law, Jamie Samuels Collins of Augusta, Ga. He also leaves behind several grandchildren, great- grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
