Jerry Milton, Sr., lovingly known as “The Mighty Carry,” transitioned peacefully on December 7, 2025, at the home of his beloved son in Dublin, Georgia. Born on March 21, 1960, in Twin City, Georgia, Jerry lived a life rooted in faith, family, loyalty, and the kind of laughter that filled every room he entered. Though he has taken his rest, the joy he brought to this world remains everlasting.
Jerry was the son of Husey Lee Milton Jr. and Bonnie Milton, both of whom preceded him in death. Raised in Twin City, he was a proud product of Emanuel County, where he attended Emanuel County Institute. As a young Bulldog athlete at Rountree Stadium, Jerry made a name for himself on the football field—remembered for his powerful hits under the Friday night lights and for playing among talented peers, including the likes of Herschel Walker. Those early days forged his bold spirit, competitive drive, and deep love for the game.
Jerry was bold, funny, hardworking, and full of heart. A proud Baptist, he carried the values of faith, strength, and gratitude throughout his life. He enjoyed American football, track and field, fishing, hunting, and spending treasured moments with family and lifelong friends. His presence uplifted others, and his unmistakable, motivating “Yeeeaaa!” became a signature expression that charged the spirit of everyone who knew him.
Professionally, Jerry dedicated nearly three decades to construction as a Machine Operator with Pope Construction from 1993 to 2022. His hands helped build structures that served the very community that raised him, including Twin City Elementary School and projects at Emanuel County Institute. Jerry’s work ethic, dependability, and willingness to mentor younger workers left a lasting impression on all who labored alongside him.
Jerry was united in love with his wife, Joyce Swans-Milton, his classmate and lifelong partner until her passing. Together they built a family grounded in love and commitment. He is survived by his devoted son and namesake, Jerry Milton Jr., loved as Kimbella Milton, who stood faithfully by his father’s side until his final transition.
He is also survived by his siblings: Dorothy Milton of Ellenwood, GA; Andrianne Milton of Wagener, SC; Angela Ford (Joseph) of Metter, GA; Leroy (Carrie) Milton of Twin City, GA; and Terry Milton of Millen, GA; along with his loving aunt, Isabelle Daniels of Jacksonville, FL.
Jerry also leaves behind a host of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rosetta Williams, Tracy Swans Ayedun and Judy Smith, all of whom cherished him deeply and held him in the highest regard.
He is preceded in death by his parents, siblings, spouse, and nephews.
Jerry’s life was enriched by cherished lifelong friendships, including Sammie Kirkland Jr. and the Kirkland family, Bobby McNear, Robert Cross, Harry Clark, Daniel Mack and the Mack family, the Steele family, the Brantley family, and David Williams and Family—the latter of whom held a special place in Jerry’s heart through both friendship and the bond of brotherhood as his brother-in-law.
Jerry lived boldly, laughed loudly, and loved deeply. He was a great big brother, son, father, husband, and friend—a steady source of strength and a comforting presence to all who knew him. His work, his wisdom, and his unwavering dedication to family will forever echo through the generations he touched.
As we celebrate his life, we stand on the truth of Scripture:
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.” — 2 Timothy 4:7
Jerry completed his earthly race with honor. Though he is absent from the body, he is present with the Lord—resting in eternal peace, reunited with those he loved, and watching over those who continue to carry his legacy forward.
The family extends heartfelt thanks for every prayer, call, and act of kindness during this time. May his memory be a blessing, and may his unforgettable “Yeeeaaa!” remain a song in our hearts forever.
