Mr. James C. Harvard, aka Pops and Sonny, was born January 1, 1944 in Eastman, Georgia to Allen and Estoria Burney Harvard. The family moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida while James was young. He attended the public schools of Broward County and completed high school there.
As an adult , Sonny acquired various jobs. He was employed at a local hospital for over fifteen years, working in the custodial department. With a love for automotives, he secured a job with a Ford Motor dealership, working in the repair department. This job afforded him the opportunity to receive professional training in the automobile repair and maintenance service. This served him well , as later he would become self-employed as an automobile mechanic. Pops enjoyed fishing, traveling , sightseeing and even did a bit of race car driving. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren very much.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Allen Harvard, Jr. and LeVon Harvard; two sons, Christopher Tony Harvard and Veronda Harvard. He is survived by: three sons, Shannon Mainer of Metter, GA, Shawn Harvard and Theophilas Harvard both of Brooklyn, NY; three daughters, Torie Harvard of Atlanta, GA, Tinka R. Harvard of Jersey City, NJ and Jerwana Hudson of Fort Lauderdale, FL; twelve grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; his special friend and companion, Martha Hunter.
