James Lee Carlyle was born on July 28, 1937, in Emanuel County, Georgia, to Willie L. Carlyle and Bessie Gibbons Carlyle. He grew up in a close-knit family and attended the public schools of Emanuel County. However, due to family responsibilities, he left school early to work and help support his loved ones.
A man of deep faith, James was a devoted member of Rountree Grove Baptist Church, where he served as a trustee. In 2020, he became a member of Team Effort Missionary Baptist Church, worshiping under the leadership of his brother, Rev. Samuel L. Carlyle.
James spent much of his life in Vero Beach, Florida, where he worked as a construction laborer. His hard work and dedication were evident in all that he did. He was known for his compassionate heart, sharp sense of humor, and the wisdom he shared with those around him. James found great joy in fishing, gardening, and serving the Lord. In his spare time, he enjoyed watching wrestling (WWF), relaxing outdoors, and indulging in his favorite snacks.
James was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Willie C. Carlyle, Charles E. Carlyle Sr., Oscar Thomas Carlyle, and Lee Arthur Carlyle; one sister, Sarah L. Carlyle and his children, Michelle Carlyle, Denver (Shauna) Byrd, Ricky (Mae Rose) Williams, and Tommy Pierce.
He leaves behind cherished memories with his loving family, including his son, Kelvin Carlyle (Karen) of Atlanta, GA; his daughter, Sondra J. Mincey of Willingboro, NJ; and his goddaughter, Jazmine of Florida. He is also survived by his brothers, Samuel L. Carlyle (Deloris) and David Carlyle (Gladys) of Twin City, GA, and Robert L. Carlyle (Gussie) of Augusta, GA; his sisters, Janie Parrish, Dorothy Brown, and Kathy Manley of Twin City, GA, and Bettye Carlyle-Clarke of Savannah, GA. Additionally, he leaves behind four sisters-in-law, Julia M. Carlyle of Warm Springs, GA; Hattie Carlyle, Lourine Carlyle, and Carolyn Mosley, all of Twin City, GA; nine grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
James Carlyle will be deeply missed, but his legacy of kindness, faith, and love will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
