James Edward Brown, Jr. was born January 9, 1962 in Alexandria, Virginia to Mr. James E. Brown, Sr. and Mrs. Ruthie Mae Brown. He attended the public schools of Alexandria and graduated from Alexandria City High School (formerly T.C. Williams) in 1980.
After graduation, James relocated to Register, Georgia and began farming with his grandfather. Desiring to make a better life for himself, he enlisted in the United States Army in 1982. When his tour of duty ended, he returned to Georgia and gained employment with Rogers Bridge Company ( now Southeastern Site Development). James had an excellent work ethic and worked for the same company for more than thirty years. At the time of his passing, he was an assistant foreman.
On January 11,1997, he was joined in marriage to the former Alma Lawrence. To this union two daughters were born, Jasmine and Jariah.
James was a faithful member of Tremount Temple Missionary Baptist Church, Metter, Georgia . Through the years, he served in various capacities to include teaching Sunday School and Bible study. He was an ordained deacon and a past president of the Deacon Board.
James was an avid sports fan and enjoyed watching professional football. He loved playing basketball and volleyball. He was a wonderful family man and especially enjoyed spending quality time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by: his wife, Alma Brown of Metter, GA; two daughters, Jasmine Brown Valladares (Emilio) of Hardeeville, SC and Jariah Brown of Macon, GA; three grandchildren, Jakari Brown, Quiniah Brown and Scarlett Valladares; his parents, James, Sr. and Ruthie Mae Brown of Metter; one brother, Anthony Brown of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Angela Spence (Richard) of Winsted, CT and Cynthia Latney (Robert) of Manassas, VA; one aunt, Mildred Holloway of Metter, GA; six brothers-in-law, Willie Lawrence (Debbie), Robert Lawrence (Connie), Sammie Lawrence, John Lawrence (Mary Ann), Joseph Lawrence (Lashawdra) all of Metter, GA and George Lawrence (Raymona) of Pembroke, GA; four sisters-in-law, Carolyn Evans of Brunson, FL, Maggie Frazier (Nathan) of Statesboro, Ga, Shellie Dillard (Herbert) of Jacksonville, FL and Rose Williams (Wayne) of Metter, GA, several other loving relatives and friends.
