Sister Irene Eason Edenfield was born April 11, 1938 in Candler County, Georgia to Ben and Rebecca Singleton Eason. On Tuesday, July 19, 2016, Sister Irene answered the call made by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and stepped on board of the Gospel Train.
Her early childhood education was at the Steep Hill School and went on to attend the Candler County Training School. She and her husband, Ernest, lived and worked on his family farm in Candler County for twenty (20) years before making the city of Metter their home. She worked for twenty-eight (28) years in the healthcare profession as a Certified Nursing Technician.
Sister Irene was a member of the Steep Hill Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a church mother, deaconess, minister of music, and pianist for the choir. She was the ninth child of twelve.
She was married to the love of her life, Ernest Edenfield, on September 11, 1954. To this union seven children were born and one decease. Sister Irene was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her testimony of faith and love home and abroad is that she “endeavored to keep the unity of the spirit in the bond of peace,”
She was preceded in death by her parents, Ben and Rebecca Eason; three brothers, Dean Eason, Ben Eason, and William (Bill) Eason; five sisters, Pearlie Mae Johnson, Elean Allen, Rosie Bell Edenfield, Pennie Kennedy, and Leola Johnson; and one son.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her devoted lifelong love and husband of 61 years, Ernest Edenfield of Metter, GA; two daughters, Reverend Linda (Reverend Eddie) Byrd and Sharon (Eric) Norwood both of Metter, GA; four sons, Earnest Westley Edenfield, Lamar Edenfield, and Timothy Edenfield all of Metter, GA; Larry (Sheila) Edenfield of Las Vegas, NV; one sister, Carrie Bell (Arthur) Edwards of Metter, GA; two brothers, Wilbert (Catherine) Eason of Woonsocket, RI; Van (Betty) Eason of Louisiana; one brother-in-law, James E. Allen of Silverstreet, SC; two sisters-in-law, Burnese (Morris) Smith of Claxton, GA and Ann Edenfield, Savannah, GA; ten grandchildren; Tony Byrd, Melinda (Chris) Swint, Angela (Patrick) Reed, Michole (Glen) Bowman, Brandon Mainer, Jazzaloyn Edenfield, Marie Edenfield, Timisha Edenfield, Cale L. Edenfield, and Kenadi Williams Edenfield; eight great-grandchildren; Miciah Wright, Bella’ Rose Swint, Kayla Byrd, Eddie Byrd, Jaden Byrd, Steele Reed, “Baby” Reed, and Xianna Priscella Green and a host of nephews, nieces and other relatives.
