Deacon Henry Virgil Meridy was called home to be with the Lord on August 30, 2016. He was born March 27, 1945 in Bulloch County, Statesboro, Georgia to the late Henry and Mae E. Meridy.
He attended the public schools of Metter, Candler County, Georgia. After graduation, he gained employment with Rockwell Industries and later Brooks Instruments where he worked, for thirty-seven years. He served as a County Commissioner in Candler County for over fifteen years. Deacon Meridy was a past member of the Candler County Chamber of Commerce, C.I.S., and a proud member of the Metter High School Booster Club.
Deacon Meridy was a member and devoted deacon of Old Bethel Primitive Baptist Church, Statesboro, Georgia, where he served faithfully until his death.
He was preceded in death by one son, Melvin Meridy, one daughter, Tracie Meridy, three brothers, Billy Earl McCray, Ronald Meridy and Cecil Meridy.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his sons, Lysander Tavis Meridy and Virgil Monte Meridy both of Metter, GA; five sisters, Mildred Flannigan and Gloria (Robert) Doughman both of Cincinnati, OH, Reverend Carolyn (Reverend William) Byrd, Jessie (Billy) Jones, Ora Matthews all of Metter, GA; two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Meridy and Kay Meridy; four grandchildren, Nyelle Meridy, Evan Meridy, Brittaney Meridy and Caleb Meridy; two great grandchildren, Jainya Berry and Josiah Berry; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
