Harlee Johnson Obituary

Whitaker Funeral Home respectfully announces the passing of Mr. Harlee Johnson, Tuesday, March 25, 2025. The obituary is lovingly written by the daughters.

Daddy, aka, our Father, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, Brother-in-law, Cousin, Friend, Harlee Johnson began his journey through the dash on Wednesday, February 9, 1944 in Bulloch County, GA.  He was created in love through the seed of Arrie Johnson, Sr. planted in the womb of Henrietta Lanier Johnson.

The ninth of eleven children, Daddy developed street savvy and gained knowledge of machines and mechanics during together times with Grandaddy. When the appropriate age was reached, Byrd Jr. High became the place that Harlee attended to engage in reading, writing and arithmetic.

Mr. Johnson established his personal relationship with Christ in his adult years; he united with the body of Christ at New Hope MB Church and was baptised by Pastor Lee Hunter. He relocated to Washington D.C. and from there to Ft. Pierce, FL; upon his return home, Harlee united with Agape Family Worship Center under the pastorate of Elder Donald Chavers, Jr. and later reconnected with his New Hope family under the leadership of Pastor Gregory Thomas.

Like with all the Johnson Gentlemen, Sons of Arrie, our Dad was a multi-skilled laborer who was employed in the field of construction as a machinist, mechanic, and reinforcing ironworker.  Gifted with multiple talents, O' how Daddy could sing and would dance the night away; he performed with James Brown and the Cool Breeze Band in Virginia in the late '60s.

His childhood residence was in Pulaski, GA with his father and stepmother, Arrie, Sr. "Buddy" and Alva Johnson who preceded him in death; Harlee was reared with four brothers, Hubert, Allen, Arrie Jr and Charlie Johnson and two sisters, Zenobia Johnson Sexton and Willie Mae Johnson McCray who have transitioned from this earthly realm.

The keepers of Mr. Johnson's flame who will continue the onward journey, embrace learned lessons and cradle cherished memories are:  his four gorgeous girls, Shaunta Ellis, Tajauna (Sergio) Peterson, Shayla Atmore and Star Williams; five handsome grandsons, Mylz Rivers, James  Mincey, III, Ethan Mincey, Nieman Mincey, Daryhus Williams and one beautiful granddaughter  Doneijha Williams; two bonus grandchildren, Keith Andrews and Jessica Rivers; three adorable great granddaughters, Remi Nova Mincey, Honesty Christian and Sariyah Rivers; one brother, Paul Johnson; one sister, Beverly Copeland; two brothers-in-law, Johnny Copeland and William McCray; three sisters-in-law, Katie Johnson, Money Johnson and Gertie Johnson; twenty nephews and nieces, loving cousins, two "adopted" daughters, Kim Mincey and Kashmerriah Collins, one "adopted" granddaughter, Calandra "Gal" Thomas and numerous friends.

Daddy was a well-loved Old School, Jack-of-all-trades, skilled man who will be dearly missed and forever remembered for the happy shenanigans, the persistent, pesky requests and the Giant life of the party character he possessed.  All praises to God for the time in the ------------!!
