Mrs. Gwendolyn Rutherford was born on October 21, 1955 to the late James (Jimmy) and the late Beatrice (Bea) Mobley in Tattnall County, Georgia. After a short illness, she passed on July 21, 2015 at the age of fifty-nine.
Gwen, as she was called, joined Springfield Missionary Baptist Church in Reidsville, GA at an early age. She later joined Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Cobbtown, GA, where she faithfully served as an usher until her health failed.
Gwen received her formative education in the Tattnall and Candler County School systems. She graduated from the Lillian Street High School in 1973. She attended Ogeechee Technical College for Child Care and later attended Swainsboro Technical College, receiving C.N.A. certificate.
At an early age, Gwen was married to Joe Edwards Hills. To this union two children were born, Travis and Tonya Hills.
Gwen’s dream was to become Director of a Children’s Day Care Center. She worked several years in the Candler County School system as a Teacher’s Assistant at Metter Elementary School. She was a very loveable and humble person, often working beyond the call of duty. Gwen was loyal and faithful in her work as a C.N.A., always expressing her love and affection and helping those who could not help themselves. She showed compassion and kindness toward everyone, putting others’ concerns before her own. Her greatest passion and joy were her grandchildren. She loved doing things with them, especially fishing, which was her favorite thing to do.
She leaves to cherish her memories a devoted and loving husband, Kevin “Timmy” Rutherford, Metter, GA; a son, Travis (Dee Dee) Hills, Metter, GA; a daughter, Tonya (Bryan) Ricks, Colorado Springs, CO; three stepsons, Timothy Rutherford, Jr., Atlanta, GA, Berry Rutherford, Metter, GA and Willie Lacue of Twin City, GA; one brother, Derrick Mobley, Syracuse, NY; one step brother, Mark Mobley, Fort Lauderdale, FL; grandchildren, Autavius Ricks, Shykira Ricks, BreOnna Ricks, BryAnn Ricks and Brayla Ricks all of Colorado Springs, CO, Tymere Hills and Hinesville, GA; four step grandchildren; her mother-in-law, Mary Thomas, Metter, GA; five aunts, Beola Mincey, Fronita Mincey, Ouida (Charles) Mainer, Josephine Parrish
