Elsie was born June 24, 1944 to Ruby Mae and Henry Wilson in Nittyuma, Mississippi. She was the third of five children, all born two year apart, John Henry, Betty, Edna and Ruby Lee.
The family moved from Mississippi to New Orleans, LA in 1944, where they lived until 1949. From there Elsie, Edna and Ruby Lee moved to Detroit, MI with their father and John Henry and Betty moved to California with their mother Ruby in 1955.
Elsie met and married Melvin James Montgomery, the love of her life. They had six children, Pandora, Melvin, Jr., Dwayne, Edward, Diana and Wenona.
Elsie lived in Pacoima, CA with her family and worked at 3M Pharmaceutical until she retired in the early 2000’s. Then she moved to Richmond Hill, GA in 2007 to be close to her sisters, Betty and Ruby Lee. It is there where she went home on April 14, 2015 at the age of seventy.
Elsie loved her church family which included Mt. Gilead Baptist Church in Pacoima, CA, Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Richmond Hill, GA and her adopted church, New Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in Sparks, NV where she attended yearly while visiting her daughters, Pandora Lee and Diana Owens.
Elsie was loved by everyone she met. She would talk to you and you would feel as if you had known her forever. She touched everyone she came in contact with, and she had a smile that would light up the room. She will be missed.
She leaves behind to cherish her memories: six children, Wenona Lister, Las Vegas, NV, Dwayne Montgomery, Sacramento, CA, Melvin Montgomery, Jr. and Edward Montgomery, Richmond Hill, GA and Pandora Lee and Diana Owens, Sparks, NV; fifteen grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren and three great, great grandchildren, who she loved with all her heart; one sister, Edna Mean, South Carolina and a host of relatives and friends.
