Dora White Obituary

Dora White, formerly of Metter, Georgia, entered eternal peace April 17, 2026, after a brief illness surrounded by the love she spent a lifetime giving to others. Loving, kind, patient, and endlessly giving, Dora lived a life defined by quiet strength, grace, and unwavering faith qualities that brought comfort and reassurance to all who knew her.

Dora was born March 27, 1933, to Ceasar and Emma Cooper in Metter, Georgia and was the youngest of nine children. She matriculated through Candler County Training School and played basketball. After graduation in 1951, she took her athletic talents to Fort Valley State College. She was unable to continue playing the sport she loved after becoming ill. While at Fort Valley, Dora majored in Early Childhood education. After graduating with a bachelor’s degree and began teaching in Candler County. On April 14, 1959, she was joined in holy matrimony to George H. White, Jr and to this union three children were born, George III, Dexter and Jennifer. After the death of her husband in 1970, Dora persevered with strength and courage and raised her three children with the help of the Lord.

Education was deeply important to Dora. She devoted more than 30 years of her life to teaching before retiring, and she carried that same commitment into her home, ensuring that her three children became college graduates. Dora believed learning opened doors and created lasting opportunity.

Dora was known for her kindness, intelligence, and gentle spirit. She moved through the world with calm purpose, offering wisdom and insight in a thoughtful, understated way that left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered.

A devoted Christian, Dora’s faith was the cornerstone of who she was and guided how she lived, loved and served others. She became a member of St. Luke AME Church (St. Luke Independent Methodist Church) as a small child and continued to serve until she moved to Austell, GA with her daughter.

Dora was a loving mother and grandmother who cherished time with her grandchildren, finding great joy in their lives and accomplishments.

Though her earthly journey has ended, Dora’s legacy of love, faith, and quiet wisdom lives on in all who were blessed to know her.

She will be deeply missed and remembered. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, George H. White, Jr.; two sons, George H. White, III and Dexter C. White; and eight siblings, Henrietta Tolbert, Ceasar Cooper, Tommy Cooper, David Cooper, Walker Cooper, Horace Cooper, Ebenezer Millen, and Daisy Johnson.
