Della (Parrish) Whitaker

Della Parrish Whitaker was born December 9, 1927 to the late Lester, Sr. and Tera Suggs Parrish. She departed this life on Saturday, March 14, 2015 at her residence in Metter, Georgia.  She was a native of Bulloch County, Georgia and resided most of her adult life in Candler County, Georgia. Della was a faithful member of Saint Matthew Missionary Baptist Church, Metter, Georgia.

She was married to John Thomas “J.T.” Whitaker, Sr. They were the parents of seven children. For many years, she was employed by Candler County Board of Education in Food Service and Lunchroom Manager. She also had a catering business, serving Candler and surrounding counties.

She was preceded in death by her husband; two brothers, Lester Parrish, Jr. and John Parrish, Sr.; one sister, Minnie Mae Boston.

Della leaves to cherish fond memories; three sons and their wives , John Thomas, Jr.,  and Wanda Whitaker, Stacy and Bridgett Whitaker all of Metter, Georgia and Keith and Minnie Whitaker of Lilburn, Georgia; four daugters and their husbands, Susan and Andre Donaldson, Jessie and Carl Givens all of Metter, Georgia, Connie and Sidney Alston of Statesboro, Georgia and Beverly and Chris Thornton of Lagrange, Georgia; one brother and his wife, Louie and Francine Parrish of Ridge, New York; six sisters and their husbands, Margie Faye and Daniel Andrews of Swainsboro, Georgia, Carol “KITTY” Smith of Mastic, New York, Patricia and Wilbur Bellard of Macon, Georgia, Vivian Campbell of New York, New York, Margaret and Curtis Tillman of  Fairburn, Georgia and Gwendolyn Rogers of Riverdale, Georgia; one sister-in-law, Josephine Parrish of Pulaski, Georgia; 15 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 4 step grandchildren, 10 step great grandchildren and 1 step great great grandchild .
