Clement Kola Ilugbo

June 17, 1950 ~ November 16, 2014 (age 64) 64 Years Old

Mr. Clement Kola Ilugbo was born June 17, 1950 in Ibadan, Nigeria to Christian devoted parents (Catholic by denomination) who preceded him in death. His great grandparents donated their land to the catholic mission on their arrival in Otan-Ayegbaju, Osun State, Nigeria to build a school, church and clinic which are still there now.

During his formative years, Clement attended St. Stephen Primary School in Ibadan, Nigeria. After his elementary education he went to Catholic Technical College in Ile-Ife, Nigeria and graduated with a certificate in building construction. He worked briefly at the University of Ibadan in the Registry department as a clerk. He was an outstanding soccer player and he played for every school he attended. He was a striker for University of Ibadan workers football clubs and for almost every week his name appeared in the local newspapers for his ability to score goals for the team.

In 1975 he left University of Ibadan to further his education at Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Lagos. He Graduated with (Advance City & Guild of London) Diploma in Building Construction. He later got a job with Kubani Construction Company in Ibadan, Oyo state as a Site Manager. He always believed he must get a degree in his field before he could settle down.

In 1978 Clement got a scholarship to study in the United States and was admitted to Savannah State College (University). It was there he met his first wife Margaret who had his first child Melissa Ilugbo. He later changed from building construction to Architectural study and transferred to Hampton Institute (University), Hampton, Virginia. In 1983 he completed his first degree in Architectural design and moved back to Georgia. He later met his second wife Lorraine; they had two children together Nicholas and Justin Ilugbo.

Clement worked for various Architectural companies in Georgia; He was recognized for his contribution and involvement in the design of the stadium used for hosting the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta. In 2000 he later joined with a partner to start their own design company (Acme Group LLC). They were involved in designing many buildings and churches around Atlanta. The last project that he worked on before becoming ill was the architectural drawings and renovations of St. James A.M.E. Church Wilson-Bostic Complex in Savannah, GA.

Clement was a member of Otan-Ayegbaju Progressive Union, Atlanta branch. It was a big blow to him when his only daughter (Melissa) died in 2003. Since then he never recovered from the shock. He finally passed on November 16, 2014. Clement was a kindhearted person who was always ready to help anybody that came to him.
