Elder Birkett C. Kennedy, Sr., 83 of Cobbtown, passed away Sunday, May 24, 2020 at his residence. He was born September 6, 1937 in Candler County, GA to Marshton and Mamie Kennedy. He attended the public schools of Tattnall County and graduated from Tattnall Industrial High School. On June 13, 1960, he married Darletha Kent with whom six children were born.
Birket began his work career as a mechanic at Kennedy Chevrolet in Reidsville. He was also self- employed as a farmer and a Tattnall County School Bus driver. In 2015, after fifty-six years as a bus driver, he retired.
In 2000, he was ordained as a Primitive Baptist Minister. In 2006, he was called as the assistant Moderator of Mount Pleasant Primitive Baptist Association, and subsequently became Moderator in 2012. In 2008, he accepted the call as pastor of Eden Primitive Baptist Church in Cobbtown. He also pastored Bethlehem Primitive Baptist Church, Midville and Mount Pisgah Primitive Baptist Church, Statesboro.
He was preceded in death by his parents; seven sisters and five brothers. He is survived by five sons, Jackie Cobb of Collins, Kennis (Donna) Kennedy of Pulaski, GA, Carl Kennedy of Cobbtown, Chanault (Jessica) Kennedy of Alto and Juan (Keneja) Kennedy of Statesboro; two daughters, Glenda (Dale)Brewton of Claxton and Linda (Dennis) Murray of Buford; one brother, Wilbert Kennedy of Jacksonville, FL; 24 grandchildren and 28 great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
