Mrs. Betty Jean Gordon was born in Metter, Georgia on October 23, 1939 to Thomas James Byrd and Mayliza George Byrd. She attended the public schools of Candler County, Georgia. After the passing of her mother, Betty moved to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to live with relatives. After a short while, she returned to Stillmore, Georgia to help raise her two brothers. She resided in Stillmore for the rest of her life.
On December 11, 1957, Betty married the love of her life, Johnny Floyd Gordon. To this union two children were born. For many years she was employed at the Twin View Nursing Home in Twin City, Georgia. She was a kind, polite person who enjoyed beautiful flowers and gardening. She was an excellent cook who loved to re-create recipes, especially for during the holidays.
Early in life she joined Sams Creek Missionary Baptist Church. She later moved her membership to Stillmore Deliverance Center where she served God faithfully.
Along with her parents, she is preceded in death by one brother, Thomas Sine Byrd. She leaves to cherish fond memories: her husband of 66 years, Johnny Gordon; one son, Johnny D. Gordon; one daughter, Ilene Gordon Branch; one brother, Thomas James Byrd, Jr.; one son-in-law, Rev. Johnny Branch; two sisters-in-law, Vilue Gordon and Julia Nell Byrd; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren, five great-great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
