Betty Barlow Obituary

Betty Gail Barlow entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 19th, 2021 in Select Specialty Hospital in Savannah Georgia after an extended illness.  She was born on December 15th, 1955 to the late Edward “Dad” Parrish and the late Mary Jones Parrish of Metter Georgia. 

Affectionately known as “Gail”, she gave her life to Christ at a young age when she became a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in Pulaski Georgia.  Several years before her death while at Brown’s Nursing Home, she renewed her commitment to follow Christ by joining Bethel Primitive Baptist Church in Statesboro, Georgia.

Gail attended Lillian Street Training School for her formative education then later integrated into Metter High School and graduated with the class of 1973.  After graduation, she moved to New York City for a short time and later returned home and married Levy Barlow III.  They moved to Alexandria, Virginia where she started her career in the banking industry and was employed with Wells Fargo for many years.

She was preceded in death by her late husband Levy Barlow, III, her late father Edward “Dad” Parrish, and her late mother, Mary Jones Parrish as well as two late brothers, Gerald Parrish and Edward Parrish, Jr.

She is survived by three sisters, Joyce Parrish of Metter, Ga; Sarah Phillips of Metter, Ga; Bonnie Jean Hendley (Samuel) of Orlando, Fla.  She is also survived by three brothers, John Parrish (Wanda) of Statesboro, Ga; Kenneth Parrish of Statesboro, Ga; Lonnie Parrish (Mildred) of Detroit, Michigan; and one aunt, Jewel Young of Statesboro Georgia.

She leaves behind to cherish her memory a host of great, great nieces and great, great nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and nieces, nephews and cousins.  Two nieces who were raised in the same home and were more like sisters are Charlotte Woody (Curtis)of Statesboro, GA, and Inez Oglesby (Wiley, Sr.) of Statesboro, GA and a nephew who was like a brother, Rodney Parrish of Metter, GA.  She also leaves behind a host of sister and brother in-laws.

Her dearly beloved and special friends include Doretha Holloway Turner, Cenella Parrish, Linda Oglesby and Linda Byrd of Metter Georgia; Margie Byrd of Statesboro Ga; Lamar Pierce of Savannah GA and Novella Parrish of Atlanta, GA.
