Ava Hendrix Obituary

Mrs. Ava Marie J. Hendrix was born May 2, 1956, to Norman Doyle, Jr., and Earlene Johnson. Ava passed away after a short illness at Northside Hospital Gwinnett in Lawrenceville, Georgia, on Monday, October 10, 2022, of mantle cell lymphoma, a rare type of B cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL).

Ava attended the public schools of Candler County, Georgia. She was a 1975 graduate of Metter High School in Metter, Georgia, and a 1982 graduate of Swainsboro Technical College. She was a faithful member of Thankful Missionary Baptist Church in Metter, Georgia, under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Richard A. Lawrence.

 Ava began her career in social work at Candler County Department of Family and Children Services in 1977.  She retired in 2010, after 33 years of service.  As a lifelong resident of Candler County, Ava was extremely active in her community.  Her activities and involvements included: Cherokee Rose Garden Club (Past President), Georgia Association of Garden Clubs (State Officer), NAACP (Recording Secretary), Community Vacation Bible School (Recording Secretary), Queen of Victory Association (Past Recording Secretary), The Kindred Christmas Saving Club (Co-Treasurer) and Thankful Missionary Baptist Church (Recoding Secretary}.

Ava loved her family.  She was a devoted wife, daughter, mother, grandmother and sister.  To her grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, she was known as “Nene”.

Ava is preceded in death by her parents, Norman Doyle, Jr. and Earlene Johnson. She leaves to cherish her memories; a loving husband of 42 years, Barwick Hendrix of Metter, Georgia; one daughter, Melodye Johnson-Miller (Robert) of Stone Mountain, Georgia; one son Barwick Jamaal Hendrix of Metter, Georgia; two grandsons, Jordan Alexander Johnson of Stone Mountain, Georgia, Grayson Maddux Hendrix of Metter, Georgia; one granddaughter, Madelyn Grace Hendrix of Metter, Georgia; one sister, Renee Doyle of Washington, DC; six brothers, Dwayne Doyle (Glenese) of Register, Georgia, Keith Doyle (Tabitha) of Olive Branch, Mississippi, Jeffrey Doyle of Alexandria, Virginia, Robert Doyle, Michael Johnson, and Gary Johnson all of Metter, Georgia; one mother-in-law, Sadie Ruth Deloach of Metter, Georgia; one great-uncle; three uncles; two brothers-in-law; four sisters-in-law; several nieces, nephews, a host of friends and adoptive parents, Mr. William E. George, Jr. and Mrs. Ruthie Mae George.
