Alma Newkirk Obituary

Alma Ruth Newkirk, a woman whose life was a testament to conviction, strength, and unwavering devotion, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2026. She leaves behind a legacy rooted in spiritual dedication, creativity, and a family bound by her enduring love.

Early Life and Family

Born on September 6, 1938, in Emanuel County, Alma was the cherished daughter of Tom and Chlorine Parrish. Educated within the Emanuel County Institute Education System, Alma always held pride in her Southern heritage and remained connected to her roots throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Chlorine Parrish, and by four brothers: James, Walter, Floyd, and Tom Jr. Those surviving her are siblings Lester (Trudy), Ezell (Vermell), Deloris (Lester, deceased), Rufus, and Tony (Alesia), each holding treasured memories of her warmth and guidance.

A Life Centered on Family and Home

On November 10, 1956, Alma married the late Floyd Newkirk, with whom she built a vibrant and loving family. Alma was the devoted mother of eight children: Floyd (deceased) (Cheryl), Willie, Joyce (Larry, deceased), Jacqueline, Dwight, Lester (deceased), Janet, and Alma. Her legacy continues through twelve grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Alma shared many meaningful relationships including Victoria, Rebecca, Gloria, Caradio, and Stacey. She leaves behind a host of beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends, and her spiritual family to celebrate her remarkable life. Through both joy and challenge, Alma stood as the pillar of her home, dedicating her life’s energy to the growth and well-being of her children. She was a hands-on presence—disciplinarian, teacher, and steady guide—who led with strength and comfort. Her pride was in maintaining a home filled with warmth, love, and security.

Family Life and Personal Interest

Alma’s talents were numerous and always extended from her love for family. A skilled seamstress, she lovingly crafted clothing for her children, delighting in creating matching outfits for them. Her green thumb was legendary; she took immense pride in her home floral garden, which was once featured in the Metter Advertiser as the best in town. She had a lifelong passion for sports—especially basketball, which she played in her youth—and found joy in bowling league nights, music, and dancing. Alma enjoyed watching family related shows, old movies, and westerns. Alma was a true Southern cook, preserving and canning food, hosting family gatherings, and delighting all with her home-cooked meals. Her desserts, especially banana pudding, blueberry, and an assortment of cakes, were the flavors of home and the centerpieces of family celebrations.

A Life of Devotion

Alma’s life was deeply rooted in her love for Jehovah and her strong spiritual convictions. She dedicated her life to Him and symbolized that dedication through water baptism on April 4, 1970. Her faith in God’s Kingdom, His Son Jesus Christ, and the promises found in God’s Word—including the hope of the resurrection—guided her life, shaped her values, and strengthened her through every season. Alma also found great comfort and encouragement in Bible-based publications and the uplifting broadcasts, videos, and songs available on JW.org

Her relationship with Jehovah was her compass, providing strength and radiant hope for the future. Her family and friends look forward with anticipation to welcoming her back in paradise on earth, reunited with loved ones once more.

A Life Forever in Our Hearts

Alma Ruth Newkirk’s spirit will forever be woven into the fabric of her family’s lives. Her love, devotion, and faith have shaped generations and will continue to inspire all who knew her. We celebrate her life, honor her memory, and cherish the promise of seeing her again.
